The answer is actually "it depends". For packets submitted via the Benefits Intake API, it takes about 6 days on average to reach VBMS; however, for the 21-526EZ and the 21-22(a), we have an automated claims establishment process which about 50% of the 526EZ and 21-22(a)'s go through and these packets take less than 2.5 days from submission to reach VBMS. There are a number of things that can impact these numbers.
If a packet contains an appeals-related form (0995, 0996 or 10182), these generally take much longer to reach VBMS. Very high packets volumes or a mix of complex packets can extend the turnaround time for packets to reach VBMS as can forms that are not completely filled out or are missing signatures.
We work on an on-going basis to improve turnaround times from receipt to VBMS and have a number of automation projects underway.
