Park Hill School Board Member Quits Over Concealed Weapon

Posted on: 7:55 pm, October 16, 2012, by Jason M. Vaughn
Park Hill School District

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A member of the Park Hill Board of Education has
resigned after violating the board’s rules by carrying a concealed
weapon to a meeting last week.

According to the district, board member Fred Sanchez resigned on
Tuesday after he brought a concealed handgun to last Thursday’s board
meeting. Sanchez says that he was running late, and forgot that he was
wearing the gun.

Missouri law allows school board members and other members of
governmental boards to carry concealed weapons with a permit, the Park
Hill Board of Education forbids it, the district said in a statement.

The board will appoint someone to fill the vacant seat until the April
2013 election, when voters will select someone to serve the remaining
two years of Sanchez’ term.
