Ryan Ends Interview Abruptly Over Reporter’s Gun Control Slant

One of the reasons I like GOP Vice Presidential nominee, Paul Ryan, is
his love of the 2nd Amendment and his personal interest in guns.
Ryan apparently got a little fed up with a local reporter after
getting grilled on gun control in a way that revealed the reporter’s
anti-gun bias.
I only wish I was sitting on the other end of that interview. Although
Ryan handled himself with class, there is plenty he could have said
about gun rights that he did not. I will get to that later.
The reporter begins by asking Ryan if he believes the country has a
gun problem. Ryan responds, saying, “This country has a crime
problem.” The reporter presses him, saying, “Not a gun problem?” But
Ryan doesn’t back down. “No. If you take a look at the gun laws we
have, I don’t think President Obama is even proposing more gun laws …
we need to enforce our laws; we have lots of laws that aren’t being
properly enforced.”
I wish Ryan had not said he doesn’t think Obama is proposing more gun
laws. Although that is true, Obama and Hillary pushed the United
Nations Small Arms Treaty. Thank God the NRA was able to twist enough
arms in the Senate to stop this from being ratified. Obama may not be
lending his name to anti-gun laws and 2nd Amendment attacks in this
country, but he and his administration are certainly going at it from
the back door in order to avoid political suicide.
Ryan went on to detail ways to decrease crime rates in our nation’s
inner cities.
“The best thing to help prevent violent crime in the inner cities is
to bring opportunity to the inner cities, to help people get out of
poverty in the inner cities, to help teach people good discipline and
good character; that’s civil society.”
I agree with Ryan about opportunity, however I also believe the best
way to prevent violent crime is for law abiding, responsible citizens
to be armed. I would have taken this opportunity to explain to the
foolish reporter that in the 20th century, 170 million people have
been annihilated by their own governments after being disarmed. I
would have told him that Gun Control is NOT about Guns, but about
Control!
I would have given him examples of cities in this country where the
highest crime rates coincide with the fact that those same cities have
the most strict gun control laws and that the cities and states with
the lowest crime rates in this country are those with the least gun
control laws. I would have advised him that there are currently over
30 thousand gun control laws on the books in this country. More gun
control laws is not the answer.
I think Ryan missed an opportunity to really make a strong 2nd
Amendment statement.. however, I am not a politician. Perhaps he
handled it best without giving the reporter more text to take out of
context.
The interview ended abruptly when the reporter then asked him if he
could create all of this opportunity by cutting taxes..
In a statement from Ryan’s camp, his staff said ‘the reporter knew he
was already well over the allotted time for the interview when he
decided to ask a weird question related to gun violence and tax cuts …
When you do over 200 interviews in a couple months, eventually you’re
going to see a local reporter embarrass himself.’
