My wife (Karen) and I drove down to Uwharrie yesterday to scope out
the area. It was a nice drive the road conditions where good no
construction. My proposed route is as follows.

Lake Wheeler road to 401.
401 to Hwy 27 in Lillington.
Hwy 27 through Cameron and Carthage to Troy.
Hwy 109 in Troy to the Uwharrie.

On the return trip we can get on 15/501 outside of Carthage this hooks
up with US 1 outside of Sanford. There are plenty of places to stop
and rehydrate along the way. Kind of depends on how hot it is that
day. Right now I am thinking of two stops. One on Hwy 27 outside of
Lillington the other between Carthage and Troy. You guys can look it
over on a map and let me know what you think.

A couple of the trails look like we might be able to do. We can always
try them and if they are to rough well you only spent 5 bucks on the
day pass for the trails. The Forrest roads are mostly loose gravel and
dirt, they did not look to bad. This park also has the cleanest out-
houses i've ever used.

As far as places to eat go, there are some fast food places in Troy
and Brisco. There is a local Bbq joint outside of Troy. It must be OK
as there where a lot of cars there. There is also a Subways in Brisco
where we could pick something up and eat in the Forest picnic area.
What ever you guys feel like doing.

We took some pics that I will up load. I havent figured out how to
attach them to a post yet. So I will use the upload file option on the
home page. We plan on riding the route the weekend of the 19th so I'll
keep you posted.

Great Pics! Those trail heads do not look too bad. But as you say, you
never know whats down the trail a bit. I wonder if all those 4X4,s
rutted up the trails? Sounds like a nice ride though. I also noticed
the photos of your bikes. Looks like you have the best of both worlds.
If I added another cruiser it would definitely be the Vulcan.

The routes sound good to me. Good pics! Yeah, we can ride a couple
of the dirt roads, if we run into any problems we can always turn
around. Sounds like a fun ride.

I was looking at the link for the park and noticed that they require
day passes to ride the trails. Here is the link which provides
locations to buy the passes. http://www.cs.unca.edu/nfsnc/recreation/uwharrie/2004_ohv_trail_pass_changes.htm

There is another Strom rider interested in meeting us there. His
screen name is JohhnyReb from the Stromtroopers forum. He lives in
Charlotte and says he rides this area a few times a year. Go to the
Stromtrooper forum and look under the Southeast group forum. He also
says that these trails are pretty rough and technical due to all the
4X4 action there.

That's great to have another Strom rider meet us up there, I'll go
check out the stromtrooper site. Due to the trails being rough due to
the 4x4 action, maybe we should skip the trials and just ride the
pavement; what does everyone else think? I'm game either way.

There are alot of nice paved roads in the area. Maybe Johnyreb might
know some good routes if we meat up with him. I'll bring some route
maps with me and we can look them over. Where is he going to meet us?
I would suggest at the top of Morrow Mnt St park. If you've never been
there it is really nice. Alot of riders go up there, Paved all the
way.

Sorry guys! Hope I didn't make you wait for me this morning. Had
another 80 hr work week last week and ended up oversleeping this
morning. Let me know how the ride went. Guess I will go waste some
time at Barnetts Suzuki instead.

We had a great ride about 350 miles total for Karen and I. No rain and
not to hot. Pics will be forthcoming. Hope every one made it back
safe. Bob, Karen and I had to stop 2 more times after we split up. We
made them combo stops one for butt pain and cigars the other for butt
pain and booze. The booze will cure any left over butt pain now that
we are home. Great ride!!!

today. It was indeed a great ride. I'll get the photos posted soon.

Glad you guys made it home okay.

See you soon for our next trip.
