Was there ever any discussion of moving the meeting to a different night of the week? I've tried to go every month, but there's always a conflict with Refresh, AIGA, or some other group that I'm involved with (and sometimes they even conflict with each other). It seems like everything gets scheduled on Wednesdays. :(

ReFresh Denver typically meets on the third Wednesday of each month. UX Book Club is on the fourth of each month so we're not taking fans away from Chip & the gang. There's been some overlaps lately due to the holidays, but we should be back on track in Jan.

If you're free on Wed, Jan 27, we'd love to see you (neither ReFresh &  AIGA Denver  have anything scheduled or posted yet for that date).

Best, kkp

Well, the AIGA board meetings are typically the fourth Wednesday, which is my conflict. AIGA speaking events are typically the first Wednesday of most months, but it entirely depends on the availability of the art museum (in September, Jim Ales' presentation was on the 23rd AND Refresh moved a week later to avoid conflicting with Ignite Boulder AND Mile High Social Media Club was that night as well - and that was the book club night). I know the AIGA board conflict (probably) only affects me and I don't expect everyone to change just for me, but is there a reason UX Book Club has to be on Wednesday vs. one of the other six days of the week? Heck, even a Wednesday earlier in the month would work. In general, all these events seem to fall on Wednesdays and sometimes they overlap unnecessarily since there are so many other potential days. I think Travis even mentioned thinking about Tuesdays or Thursdays instead at some point a couple months ago, but that was the last I heard. I'd really like to come - I mean, I already own all these books! - but at the moment I can't.

*shrug*

Thanks for contacting and sharing your desires ... Eeeesh, synching calendars is always a fun task - any current/previous PM's that have any suggestions on how to get everything, everybody, everyevent relavant in Denver on a calendar and find the time that works best?

Talking it through at a meeting, as we've done, works best, but then also eliminates those that aren't there, probably for the very reason that day does not work for them :)

Here's my personal take:
  • I can do any Wed night, but there are other Denver area meetings that might conflict (can we get some sort of master event calendar :)
  • I can do 1st or 3rd Tuesdays
  • Can't do Mondays, or Thursdays... (limiting, I know)
So that just gets us to everyone adding their personal schedules and at some point someone drops out or misses out - a tough challenge.

There has been a solid group able to come and participate with current schedule, even with conflicts with other events...

I'm not sure what the best answer is, but we can try to put together a quick survey of various options and get the most feedback from anyone interested in coming... Other ideas on a more "democratic" way?

Julie, anyway to move the 4th Wed AIGA board? Prob not :)

All input is welcome,

You can use http://whenisgood.net/ - just set up January as the month and then people can highlight the days/times they're available as if it were a "standard" month (so, not specifically thinking about January, but treating January 5th as the "first Tuesday" and so on). And after a certain period of time, you can say "voting" is done and see what day is "most available." :)

Again, I don't want everyone to have to change the meeting time to accommodate me - I just wondered if another day had been considered and if anyone else had similar conflicts.

Thanks,
Julie

Hi Julie and Travis and Kelley,

I've been trying to schedule UX events in the Denver area for
years :-) You're all correct, there is basically no way to avoid
conflicts. I see this as a good problem to have, indicating that our
community is maturing. Yet, it causes me great pain!

Personally, I have a standing conflict with UX Book Club and the Mile
High Social Media meeting. Both are always scheduled on the last Weds
of the month. For example, this month I have to choose between
discussing Josh Porter's Social Media book, and hearing a panel about
social media policies within orgs. Ironic, huh, and also a BUMMER.

I would suggest that the leaders of all these groups at least be aware
of each other's existence - as a first step. As for a master
calendar, it will never exist. For now, probably the best that
leaders can do is consult the Meetup calendar + whenisgood, net + the
new denwhere.com. For UX meetings, the new IxDA master site (when it
launches) may also emerge as a de facto central calendar - stay tuned.

Hey Laurie  - Thanks for the info. I joined Mile High Social Media so I'll be in the know. Maybe you can find a partner in crime who will switch off meetings with you and take fabulous notes. That way we're sure to see you at least 50% of the time.

Best,
