I'm game if others are, we could meet at Malenke/Barnhart at 5pm, heading out at 5:15...

The event starts at 6pm, which might cut it close, but it's food and stuff at first (Laurie, when will the panel start approximately?), and might be tough to meet earlier than that with work schedules. Depending on the interest and communication here, we could do two phases, early late, or just go with whatever works. Would be good to let M/B clear out for some parking opps... Let's figure it out.

Copying my post from FB, not sure if it back-propagates to this Google
group... and I quote:

Y'all are awesome :-) Panel starts at about 6:30 PM. I know it's
rough to get up to Boulder at that time of day. Thanks for making
the drive. We'll do our best to wait till everyone arrives, before
we get started!

Had a good time last night.  It was good to see the familiar UXBC faces there... wish I didn't miss out on those cheetos.

In other news, I thought I'd let you know about a pretty rare deal for design-types...

My friend is just starting out with his electronics retail business.  His company is Front Range Entrepreneurs.  I'm going to be helping him with sub-shops for different things like Front Range GPS, Front Range Electronics, etc...

Anyway, he came into a small return on his investments so he decided to invest it and just bought a small shipment of new Macbook Pro 17" lappys (the new "mac daddy" model) and is selling them for $1800 each (normally $2,499).

Here are the Specs

    * 2.8GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    * 4GB 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2X2GB
    * 500GB Serial ATA Drive @ 5400 rpm
    * SuperDrive 8x (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
    * MacBook Pro 17-inch Hi-Resolution Glossy Widescreen Display
    * None
    * Backlit Keyboard (English) / User's Guide

He was going to put them on his ebay store, but according to Apple, you can't sell their new items for less than a certain amount when you're advertising prices online. No wiggle room, which doesn't help new retailers who are just starting out carving a niche.

It's this one (not refurb, return, etc... fresh from the factory): http://store.apple.com/us/configure/MC226LL/A?mco=MTM3NDcyOTc

Does that seem like a good deal to you?  I'm going to grab one for myself.  Let me know if you want one.  I'm sure they'll be sold out pretty fast.

See you at the next BC!

P.S. I hope this doesn't seem like a spam... I just think that if I know any group who might appreciate this type of deal, it's this one.  Let me know if you want to know about more similar deals as they come up.

Hey Mike,

I will be in the market for a lap top, but I'm not in a place to jump on this deal, so please keep me posted on future ones.

Thanks,

Val

Hey Val,

I will definitely let you know next time something like this comes up again.

And...

Not to spam, but I'd like to forward my new sites/shops to the group for feedback as they develop, if that's ok! (and besides, you might like to see the deals that come up)

The sites will be similar to overstock's thing... basically showcasing clearance deals on new products that just aren't moving fast enough from warehouses... with the main difference being that each one will have a more specific theme/niche, and a more focused product lineup.

Hey Val,

The site still needs to be created!  :)

I'll post it as it progresses, if that's ok with everyone.  Might be interesting as an ecommerce UX study, but (everyone) let me know if this gets annoying!
