Dear Members, Partners and Allies,

Greetings from the Uganda Women's Network (UWONET) secretariat,

On behalf of our member FIDA-Uganda, we are pleased to invite you to an insightful CSW69 Side Event focused on evaluating the effectiveness of poverty alleviation initiatives for women and girls in Uganda.

Event Details:

📅 Date: Friday, 14th March 2025
Time: 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM EDT | 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM Uganda Time
📍 Venue: Uganda House, New York
🎯 Theme: Poverty Alleviation Programming for Women and Girls in Uganda – What Are the Missing Links?

This session, hosted in collaboration with UN Women, the Indian Development Foundation, MGLSD, and NAWOU, will critically assess economic empowerment initiatives such as UWEP and the GROW Project, highlighting achievements, challenges, and key policy gaps. With over 50% of female-headed households in Uganda experiencing multidimensional poverty, this discussion will explore strategies for strengthening gender-responsive economic programming.

Esteemed Speakers Include:

Hon. Betty Amongi – Minister of Gender, Labour, and Social Development
H.E. Signe Skovbakke Winding Albjerg – Ambassador, Royal Danish Embassy
Mr. Edton Babu – Program Manager, CARE International
Ms. Peace Lucy Nantume – Vice Chair, FIDA Uganda Board
Ms. Aguti Jenifer Ajiji – Executive Director, NAWOU
Commissioner Angella Nakafeero – MGLSD
Ms. Anne Mette Øvrum – Chair, FOKUS

This high-level forum will convene policymakers, civil society actors, development partners, and grassroots women’s groups to assess current poverty alleviation strategies, identify gaps, and propose actionable recommendations for sustainable economic opportunities for women and girls.

⚠️ Due to limited seating, we encourage early RSVP. Kindly confirm your attendance by reaching out to Ms. Elizabeth Kemigisha, Advocacy and Communications Manager, FIDA-Uganda at 📧 ekemi...@fidauganda.or.ug.

Thank you!
