Dear Members, Partners and Allies,
Greetings from the Uganda Women's Network (UWONET) Secretariat.
UWONET in partnership with the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development (MGLSD) in Uganda, the Government of Chad and OXFAM in Africa are hosting a CSW69 Side Event titled: “UNSCR 1325 in the Context of Beijing+30: Reflections on Progress and Practice in Uganda”. This is scheduled for Monday 17th March, 2025 at 4:45pm-6:00pm (New York Time), at the United Nations Headquarters (UNHQ) CR-F and via zoom (Link to be shared with registered participants).
The Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) is the principal global intergovernmental body dedicated to the promotion of gender equality and women’s empowerment. As a functional commission of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), it plays a pivotal role in promoting women’s rights, documenting realities of women’s lives globally, and shaping standards for gender equality and empowerment. The CSW69 will focus on the review and appraisal of the implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, as well as ongoing efforts to achieve the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
This side event will reflect on progress in implementing UNSCR 1325 on Women, Peace, and Security (WPS) in Uganda and Africa, highlighting its alignment with key pillars of the Beijing Platform for Action (BPA), including Women and Armed Conflict, Women in Power and Decision-Making, Women’s Human Rights, Education and Training, and Women and the Environment. UNSCR 1325 emphasizes the essential role of women in conflict prevention, resolution, and post-conflict reconstruction. The event will also examine challenges, share best practices, strengthen partnerships, advocate for renewed commitment, and develop strategies for sustainable implementation of UNSCR 1325 on WPS.
As part of our ongoing commitment to advancing gender equality, UWONET spearheaded the Civil Society Organization (CSO) Review of the Beijing progress in Uganda indicating Progress, Challenges, and the way forward.
Join us as we reflect on three decades of progress and strategize for a more inclusive and equitable future.
