Similar to Webex, the differences being that our technology is purpose-built
for support and optimized in that space.
In use by companies like Gateway, Intuit, Cox Communications, Cablevision,
Microsoft Great Plains, and many others to provide web-based, ad hoc support
with previously installed and setup software at the remote PC. Because it's
a ASP-delivered service, the security issues (ports, encryption, etc) are
addressed and no infrastructure is required.
If you wish to play with it, just ask.

Subject: VNC across the Web
Hi!
This might be too heavy to think about and discuss this late on a Friday,
but...
I've looked into VNC in the past as I have seen it discussed here many
times. I can see the value for it when supporting internal PCs, but not sure
how or if it would work on external PCs - meaning outside your gateway
behind their gateway.
I also thought about pcAnywhere as we use it via dialup, but for tcpip you'd
be talking the same constraints. The only solution I can find to get to a
desktop behind a gateway is to either install a bunch of vpns and hope
nothing conflicts (and with M$ something will), or go to a subscriber
service such as Webex and use one of their common servers as a meeting
place.
I've beat on possible solutions - anyone else out there have any ideas?
Happy happy weekend everyone!

We talked about the idea of using VNC, but we don't have control of the
PCs before they reach the end user. Trying to talk one of our users
through the VNC setup and install procedure over the phone seemed like a
daunting task. With DesktopStreaming, we just point the user to a web
page and then the plug-in is downloaded to them for us to begin the
screen sharing.
Even though we use VNC internally for some things (and not GotoMyPC or
PC Anywhere), we use DesktopStreaming exclusively when dealing with help
desk calls.
Just my $0.02 worth. Have a great weekend everyone!
