Migrating uwh.ch newsgroups to Facebook?

Hi All,

Currently the UWH Switzerland, UWH Zürich and UWH Geneva email newsgroups are hosted on Google Groups. However, as almost everyone now has Facebook, I am considering migrating them to Facebook groups.

There are existing Facebook groups for these three newsgroups, which allow photo storage as well as discussion boards (like wall postings on individual pages). However, I had turned off the discussion boards so as not to clash with the email newsgroups, and consequently the Facebook groups never got used, and are now scheduled for archiving due to inactivity and also being in Facebook's "old" group format.

I propose that we replace the existing Google Groups newsgroups with Facebook email Groups and would welcome everyone's thoughts on this matter.

As the old Facebook groups are due to be archived anyway, I have created new Facebook groups with the same name, and for each of the Switzerland, Zürich and Geneva newsgroups the full details are as shown below.

* If you are a member of one of the old Facebook groups, please leave that group and optionally join the new group or ask me to move you over

* If you support migrating the existing Google Groups email newsgroups to the equivalent Facebook group, please join the new group or ask me to move you over

* If you do not support migrating the existing Google Groups email newsgroups to the equivalent Facebook group or have a better proposal, please reply to all with your comments. All comments welcome.

Two comments:

* Facebook does not yet support repeating events, so I would continue to do the monthly Doodle for the Zürich club

* If replying by email to a posting on the Facebook newsgroup, it is important to reply only with your text, not with the previous message attached, as the entirety of the message gets posted to the Facebook page. However, I see our near neighbours Mulhouse using Facebook for their newsgroup and it seems to work well.
