The workforce of the 21st century is changing. Success comes to those who are able to build a rich web of professional relationships that complement their deep education and their broad pursuit of challenging experiences. Being smart and doing good work is not enough. You have to know people, and they have to know you.

Unfortunately, in most people’s career pursuits, building and maintaining a powerful network is often overlooked. Many people struggle to do it well, if at all. The good news is that networking doesn’t have to be hard, and the key skills to be successful can be learned.

In this presentation we embrace a new mindset for networking — redefining it in a way that makes connecting with people easy, natural, and deeply effective. We will learn how to simplify our approach to networking while building powerful personal and professional connections that  can last a lifetime. Participants will acquire simple and useful tools and techniques that will empower them to seek, create, and maintain a great network.

There is much more to networking than noisy “networking events” and the gratuitous exchange of business cards. Networking can be easy, natural, and deeply effective.

Presenter:
Heather Hollick works with quiet leaders and technical experts, inspiring them to enhance their leadership while navigating an invigorating career. She moves fluidly between the worlds of challenging leaders one-on-one, advising and transforming teams, and inspiring audiences large and small. Her work resonates with quiet leaders who seek to have great careers and build healthy organizations.

She has an MBA from the University of California at Berkeley, a master’s degree in Applied Mathematics from Purdue University, and an undergraduate degree in math, physics, and secondary education. Heather is a change agent on a global scale with leadership experiences in IT, HR, consulting, and volunteer organizations. Her experience spans such companies as Cisco Systems, United Healthcare, Research in Motion, and the pensions department of the British Government.

Heather takes a unique and innovative approach to networking. She earned her networking stripes through total immersion. She has moved more than 30 times in her life — 25 times since graduating from college. In the last 8 years alone she has lived and worked in six cities, in three countries, on two continents. In each new place she hit the ground running by starting with little more than the strength of her network and a few local alumni and LinkedIn connections.
