Hi Everyone,
I hope you are all having a lovely summer so far. This group has been
going for over a year, and now that we have a better understanding of
the community we aim to support, we have made some changes to further
that end. All changes to the operation of the group are listed and
explained below:
1) MEETING SCHEDULE: Beginning this Saturday, July 2nd the group will
only be hosting 2 Caregiver Support Group meetings per month. Our
facilitators and student volunteers WILL be hosting a Caregiver
Support Group every 1ST and 3RD Saturday of each month.
1ST Saturdays: Meeting will be held at UW Speech and Hearing Clinic
(4131 15th Ave NE, Seattle) from Noon - 2:00pm. One facilitator will
be present to meet with Caregivers and student volunteers will
entertain kiddos and hang out with stroke/head injury survivors in
other rooms.
3RD Saturdays: Meetings will be held at Northwest Hospital Rehab
Center (1550 N 115th St, Seattle) and WILL BE BREAKOUT MEETINGS FROM
THE YASS MEETING. YASS meetings are held from 2:00pm - 4:00pm in the
TCU Auditorium; Caregivers remain with their loved ones for the
initial part of the meeting then at 3:00 (per an announcement) the
Caregivers breakoff into their own meetings. There will be two rooms
for the Caregiver Support Groups and a facilitator in each room
(specific rooms have yet to be announced). Student volunteers will be
there to assist Survivors or watch kiddos during the Caregivers
meeting. ***These meetings do not begin until the 3rd Saturday in
September as YASS has picnics planned for both July and August.***

2) POKER HIATUS: Our group had been supporting a Survivors Poker Night
for the past few months, yet we have decided to put this on hold until
there is increased interest.
3) NEW COORDINATORS: I am happy to announce that replacing myself as
group coordinator will be Luke Reynolds and Liane Thomas! Luke and
Liane are both postbac students in UW's Dept of Speech and Hearing
Sciences and are excited to be involved with this group! They are your
new go-to people for ANY questions about the group - don't worry, you
can contact them via this message or through our Google Groups page
(
http://groups.google.com/group/uwcaregivers) and our Facebook page
(

and am pleased that I can pass this great volunteering opportunity
onto such capable students.
As always, please feel free to contact us with any questions!
