Hi all
(Murat can you please post to the other google group).
The University of Twente visited us last week to discuss the 2 attached PhD opportunities. One is design oriented, the other is perhaps more policy oriented. There is quite a bit of leeway in how these positions are interpreted and they are open to the right student providing their own direction on these.
Other things to be aware of:
1. Waterloo and Twente have a collaborative agreement and, as a result, the Waterloo supervisor (assuming this is from one of your masters students) would likely also be invited to collaborate in the training.
2. Marie Curie training programs are prestigious and recognized throughout the world.
3. Twente teaches all classes in English.
4. Twente is ranked the top technical university in the Netherlands.
5. The Netherlands has a progressive culture, advanced approach to healthcare, most people speak English, warmer winters than we do, a love of sport and bicycles and very good cheese.
6. Twente is located about 1.5 hours east of Amsterdam in a gorgeous medium sized city called Enschede. Rents and living costs are far below Amsterdam. Twente is a few minutes away (literally) from the border with Germany which makes it an interesting location.
