The information I have is scanty, so please forgive me. Last night in the
University District/Roosevelt area four cats were shot with an air gun.
Two were killed. The scum who did it is still out there.

Please, those with indoor-outdoor pets -- keep them safely inside and off
the windowsill until the police have made an arrest. If caught, the scum
(scum singular or plural, as the case may well be) will be subject to
prosecution under Seattle's Pasado (animal cruelty) law. Watch the news
tonight for details.

Hello!

This is definitely very unsettling news to be heard. I live in the
University District on Roosevelt between 50th and 47th. Mitsy, one of our
two cats, has been missing since June 5, and our attempts to locate her
have been completely unfruitful (FYI: she is a 1-yr-old, short-hair
calico, mostly black and dark brown in color with tan/light-brown
speckling -- her most distinguishing features were a bright pink flea
collar and relatively shorter fur on the lower half of her belly [the
lower half of her belly had been shaved when she was recently spayed]).

I just have a couple of requests: first of all, if anyone might have any
information on our missing cat, described above, PLEASE respond!

Second, I was wondering whether anyone might have more information on the
cat shootings, such as specifically when and where in the u-district they
happened; what time of day; presence of witnesses; what kind of leads the
police have; etc...

If anyone has ANY information, please reply!

Sincerely,
-Peter Smiltins-

I wish I had an update on the shootings. I've just placed a call to a
contact at Seattle Animal Control. They probably have an officer on the
case or at least have some recent information for us. I'll post what I
learn, if anything.

I am very sorry to hear your cat has gone missing, Peter. I assume you
have put up lost cat flyers in the area, have gone door-to-door, and have
been checking with Animal Control every three days. PAWS also has a
lost/found service, though I am no longer certain how that works, unless
you resort to their website. They are virtually impossible to reach by
telephone.

I have no tips on Peter's missing cat (and can only urge you to keep
looking, Peter; the most common reason cats go missing is that their
curiosity takes them somewhere they can't get out of again, such as an
outbuilding, or basement, or even someone's vechicle), but I do have some
info on the cat shooter.

The shooting is under investigation by Seattle Animal Control, so I can't
say too much at this point about suspects, etc. The shootings happened
over a period of time (a week, if I understood my source correctly), not
all in one evening as I had thought, and the neighborhood where the
incidents took place is very aware of what is going on. (And I hope they
are keeping their cats inside.) Animal Control has a pretty good handle
on this case; we can only hope that enough evidence will be collected for
an arrest to be made.

Seattle does have a cat shooter in the south end who will be facing felony
charges. Cats are being shot from windows. I don't believe that
particular nutcase has been apprehended yet.

What is the "Pasado Law"? I have been trying to find out if there is
still time to send a letter regarding the trial of Chad Callahan,
accused of torturing the famililies cats when he was hired to babysit an
eight year old child. I had asked someone several weeks ago that
volunteers with the ALDF, but have not recieved any information back
from them. Would anyone here have any info on this?
