Just got my first "office kitten" to foster until he is a bit older and
stronger. Little red tabby, male, 4 weeks(?). I am unsure of his age, as
he had a rather hard start and may be undersized for his age. Not as
strong on his feet as a healthy 4-weeker, yet has body characteristic of a
5-weeker. Was picked up yesterday by a young woman who managed to get a
bit of diluted yogurt into him and nothing since. He did not appreciate
my attempts to bottle-feed with Just Born but showed interest in the
Gerbers. I've gotten a meal of a mixture of both into him and he is
resting comfortably. When he was brought to me in my office this morning,
I immediately popped him down the front of my jumper (a kind of dress to
you Brits, not a sweater) and he snuggled right down. I've tagged him
Roo (hope you don't mind, Lynda; the name seems to suit him).
His rescuer would like to adopt him when he is stronger. If she changes
her mind, however, I will post to my website and to the PAWS Virtual
Shelter when Roo is ready for his new home.
Meanwhile, there is a litter of three little black kittens I may be
snatching up this weekend, who will be ready for their new homes shortly,
with any luck. Their mother is perfectly tame and already has a home
waiting for her when that family is safe inside. Little Roo also has
siblings, if they can be found and rescued. And I am fairly sure the two
momcats on campus who have evaded our traps have recently given birth.
Yes, kitten season is very much here. I used to look forward to spring.
Please *spay* and *neuter* without "letting" your pet have babies -- I and
other rescuers wouldn't have to be doing this if pet owners were more
responsible. (Members of the choir need not read this part.)
