I'm happy to say that the shelter-l list is back online, and you are all
welcome to join for some stimulating if often sparse conversation.
Shelter-l is not a competitor of dog-rescue (you can't beat the best),
although there are similarities. Shelter-L is:

... a forum for animal shelter staff, rescue organizations, and animal
welfare advocates, in hopes that the sharing of ideas and information will
lead to better animal care and greater education among humans about pet
care, pet overpopulation, feral cats, puppy mills, back yard breeders, dog
fighting, and cruelty. Posting information regarding techniques, policies,
enforcement issues, and prosecutions is encouraged. If you are looking for
information on a particular offender who may have a prior history of
animal abuse, here's your forum. Also feel free to tell a heart-warming
story, let off a little steam, or cry on our shoulders when you've had a
particularly stressful day. Lord knows we deserve it!

Since this list is a resource for animal shelter and rescue professionals,
you should expect some pretty controversial and emotional topics to be
