Friends of Campus Cats has been sucked into the vortex of kitten season,
stumbling into a neighborhood colony that is in the process of population
explosion. Right now we have a litter of 5 weekers, a 11-12-week boy who
is very sweet and promising for a home, and a 10-day infant rather
over-burdened with the name of Falstaff. (Little Falstaff is a tippler,
you see, and a jolly fellow.) There are more kittens out there and more
to come, so we need both funds and homes, especially homes.
Just a reminder to those who are feeding homeless cats and feral colonies.
Feed them, please, and bless you-- but also please sterilize (and test for
FIV/FeLv). The woman who has been feeding this neighborhood colony for
years almost had the population under control 2 years ago but stopped
short of catching and sterilizing all the adults she could because she was
not willing to return the cats to the area. Now it is a nightmare, with
the possibility of the city stepping in and killing these animals. Campus
Cats is going to try to avert this by catching and sterilizing all we can,
but this could have been avoided.
