Has anyone managed to get a Colorado tape backup (1.6G) working
under Polaris?
I have it working under standalone Win 95 but every attempt under
Polaris gives a handfull of GPFs and a solid lock.
I've tried to install it before the "cleanup.bat" is run [during
an install] and as a privilaged user using admin.exe to give me
write access to the hard drives (after a proper install).
It fails trying install MiCroSoFt Jet database and then when it tries to
detect the drive winblows-chunks does the usual blue screen of death thing
and the system locks.
In both cases a Proteon card was in the machine.
Pulling the sound card and changing the Proteon IRQ resulted in identical
failures while installing.

Surprise, surprise another install program that doesn't recognize a shared
network install of Windows 95. I thought a couple of people were running this
software even one or two within E&CE. I unfortunately don't have any first hand
experience with this software/hardware.
There are many techniques you can use to possibly get around this problem but
without knowing where the problem is occuring all I can give is some guesses on
small details that might help. Simple things to try are: creating the SYSTEM,
and INF directories under D:\W95, copy the software INF file to e:\w95\inf so
"Plug and Pray" can recognize the hardware, interrogating the INF files or
other files on the install disk to see which steps are failing, take a look at
d:\w95\wininit.ini and the registry key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run... before the
install software requires a reboot.
It might be easier to get together or give me a phone call to talk about what
you've tried and what else you can try to do to find a workaround to this
problem.
