How many mail messages do you receive per day? How many news
articles would you read per day? Chances are that you will
read lots more in news.
You won't likely post a lot. There were only 546 posts from all of
Engineering in the last 11 days, most of them quite small. Compare
that to the more than four gigabytes of news we read over the same period.
If we open up news access to offstream students with lots of time on
their hands, that news reading number will be even larger.
Will news access *replace* your Email reading? Probably not.
It will also cause you to spend much more time connected, meaning
there will always be more people connected, thus driving up that
thing we annoyingly call load.
I am looking at options for uw.* newsgroups, but other news access
really pushes up our costs deliverring this service.
