When will the scanner in GAFF be up again?

Are there any plans to repair the PC in GAFF that has the attached
scanner? There's been an out of order sign on it for pretty well the
whole term. If it's the PC's fault, has anyone considered moving the
scanner to another machine?

[notice: I don't work for Eng. Computing, which runs the Gaff, so this is
NOT an authoritative answer].

I talked to one of the Eng. Computing people last week while he was trying
to get the Scanner to work. It appears that the SCSI adapter in the machine
used to interface to the scanner predates any "standard" for PC SCSI
adapters, and while it worked fine under Win3.1 (DOS driver + HP driver, I
think), it's not being recognized under Win95 (I'm guessing maybe because
you can't run the DOS driver in Win95 first). So, it's not a "machine"
problem as such, but an OS problem, meaning once they find a driver or buy a
newer SCSI adapter, the problem should go away, but I have no idea if or
when such a thing might happen.
