hello,

i am wondering what the policy is regarding equivalence of email
addresses on the campus network.

as far as i know
mybest...@math.uwaterloo.ca
is treated exactly the same as
mybestfriend@[fe01|fe02|beta|pythagoras|...].math.uwaterloo.ca

question: is it also treated exactly the same as
mybest...@uwaterloo.ca
mybest...@personal.research.machine.math.uwaterloo.ca

by "treated exactly the same" i mean that they all represent the same
account, that 'mybestfriend' is a unique userid across campus, and that
this is not just a happy accident but an actual policy which will remain
in force for some reasonably forseeable future.

my motivation is that i want to set up whitelist filtering on my email;
thus if i identify an email address as a friendly one whose emails go into
my friendly inbox, i want to include all equivalent ones as well.

i guess the bottom line is, given an email address of the form
x...@some.domain.that.ends.in.uwaterloo.ca
can i assume that the canonical form of x's email is
x...@uwaterloo.ca
and be confident that the email i get tomorrow from
x...@some.other.domain.uwaterloo.ca
is in fact the same person?
