In other cases the students were in groups math1, cs125 and could login in
before yesterday but for some reason couldn't today. Each one had
confirmed they had changed their password.
Example math students with this problem: l13zhang, b7liu
In non-math cases there were non-cs students who took cs125 and had not
changed their password, they could log into macs yet no other machines. If
I remember correctly their password was set to New-User when I userinfo'd
them.
Example non-math non-cs students: js2park
I informed the CS125 instructors that many students had not changed their
passwords and there are many password problems this morning.
This kind of behaviour has been reported in cscf.help before, as well.

re the students whose lab behaviour changed even though they are in
cs125, and had previously changed their password - the groups look OK
now on Active Directory, but at least one of them was affected by the
bad data last week, and if that was their only CS course, then the
process *might* have done something to their Unix account/password when
they were incorrectly deemed to have *dropped* the course.
Could they log in after a password reset?
Thanks
