problems with pine

I am having a problem with pine. When opening my inbox everything seems
fine and the first few emails are listed but then the character set seems
to change the bottom of the screen is jibberish. When I exit the
character set is still messed up and the only thing I seem to be able to
do is log out of my session. This has happened on fe02.cs, cpu114.cs, and
at least one other grad cd machine.

If you're using xterm, there's an 8-bit character that could be in
your incoming e-mail that screws up xterms. Move the mouse pointer
into the affected window, hold down the control key, press the middle
mouse button, select "soft reset" on the resulting menu. Write this
down, you won't be able to read it on your screen when you need it.
If you're not using xterm, maybe somebody else will have a clue as
to what's happening.
