Hi there,
sorry for the crosspost, I was totally unsure where this post should
be sent.

I'm thinking on creating my own bookstore to sell books. My idea is
of a collection of books related to the same subject (and all-arounders)
for target clients that are interested in that kind of topic.

What do I need in order to be able to sell books? I guess I need to
have a distribution license? I guess I would need to find who owns the
copyrights of a specific book, contact that person or entity and deal a
distribution license. Then I would need to find out who prints this
book and buy copies from them?

If anybody can help me about the law regarding the setup of a
bookstore (just related to litterature and copyright) and to the
acquisition of books for reselling, please tell me.

Thanks,
Turner

Hello Turner:
Your idea to have a collection of a specific subject is wonderful. I
think first you need to identify a topic/ category like Sociology;
History; Biochemistry, Fine arts, or anything. Start collecting the
selling popular books in those area. You can even have a tie-up with
the publishers - get as many pre-publication copies. It will always be
better to choose a subject in which you are knowledgeable.
Make a brochure or a digital listing on your website. Link it up with
as many search engines. As and when you add books to your collection -
append the list.
Join such library groups and make the Librarians aware of the
availability of publications.
You may even sponsor some seminars/ conferences organised in that
specific subject area. Definitely you will be a success.
I have an example of one Universal Book Distributing Co, Lucknow, India
- they had started in a very small way - now in India - any University
Library/ Department wants a book on Geology they approach him. He is
indeed doing a wonderful service.
Great idea - go for it.
