We've been meeting since 2014. We've taken a hiatus for the pandemic, but it's time to restart! Our next presentation is scheduled for November 24th, 7pm at the Quantum Nano Center - lecture theater 0101.
Ideally we try to mix 1 student and 1 industry presentation, of about 45 minutes in length. Our presentations aim to motivate, inform, educate and entertain. The audience is assumed to be keen undergrad to grad level, and we keep the presentation informal. There is time for chats before, during intermission and afterwards. The topic is up to the presenter and doesn't have to be directly related to their role, we just require a math or CS angle. Many talks tended towards ML topics, a very active intersection of math and CS, but we're not just about ML. For example - one talk was about voting systems and their mathematics. Our last presentation in 2020 was by Luis Ruiz-Lopez, combinatorics & optimization PhD student, introducing the basics of quantum safe cryptography.
We have many of our talks video on YouTube or their slides linked on the meetup site.
