In Question 4 of the review guide provided in the last lecture, it asks
for the kind of protocol that DNS uses. Does this refer to the naming
protocol (i.e. iterative/recursive naming resolution), or the transport
layer protocol (i.e. TCP/UDP)?

It does not refer to TCP/UDP. It refers to the set, sequence and
meaning of messages exchanged between client and server that are
required for name resolution.
