E-Commerce

Indeed, there are many security issues with selling and buying items
on the Internet. However, one of the largest e-commerce companies, Ebay,
makes millions of dollars a day providing this service to customers,
both sellers and buyers alike, all over the world. In fact, companies
like Ebay, control the entire auction process as well as mostly the
electronic money transfers to pay for the items. However, the concern is
that buyers have never even met the seller before, they could be in
another continent for all they know. To make matter even worse, the
buyers have never seen the product they are about to buy. In addition,
they are sending electronic money in the form of either an email money
transfer, a check, and even a money order. These kinds of transfers can
be in intercepted by third-party groups, especially when credit card
numbers are given over email or the internet.

On a personal level, I am a frequent user of Ebay and can give you a
first-hand account of what really happens in the business of e-commerce.
I am almost always a seller of items, simply because I do not trust
buying something I have never seen before, especially if it is not new
and sealed in the original manufacturer零 package. Frankly, I wouldn靖
even trust myself since all the things I sell are used. However, Ebay
and e-commerce companies are starting to grow more popular by the day
because it is a place to unload on stuff you don靖 need anymore. Most of
time, you get a good price for your stuff but Ebay and other companies
like to chip away at your money by charging listing fees, final auction
fees, etc. Then they hammer at your bank account again by charging you
more fees when you receive or make the money transfer, usually through
Paypal, another Ebay company.

Dear e Chan

I agree with your argument in your posting. E-commerce like eBay is
becoming increasingly popular in today society. It too though as you
mentioned comes with many riskes and concerns, with those risks
primarily being stolen identity and theft. I too am very concerned with
e-commerce and very skepticle of it too. I can not trust buying things
off people I know nothing of and when I know nothing really about the
probuct I am getting. Too, I feel it is very risky to be giving out
personal information and financial information online like credit card
numbers. Today, this problem is become ever greater and effecting more
and more people. I feel that this is step in the right direction for
commerce and computing, yet for me at the time it brings too many risks.
Thank you for your article.
