The main cause of Repetitive Strain Injuries is from repeated physical
movement that damaged the tendons, nerves, muscles and other body
tissue. As the use of tight touch key-broad rise and pointing device
like mice and trackball had result in an epidemic of injuries of the
hands, arm and shoulder. The thousand of repeated key strokes and long
periods of clutching and dragging with mice slowly accumulates damage to
the body. In order to prevent RSI, correct typing technique and
postures are very important. Individual must avoid awkward reaches or
angles in the body while typing on key-broad. Also, individual should
try to move and shift positions frequently.
As the uses of computer increase, everyone should be aware of the hazard
of Repetitive Strain Injury because now a day, it have grown too common,
that its possible for anyone to have this kind of injury, ranging from
meatpacker to musician.
Reply to Repetitive Strain Injury
On a personal note I know that Repetitive Strain Injury is very serious.
I have been suffering for awhile from damaged tendons in my right arm
and the pain is unreal. As you have said in your summmary of this
article it begins to affect everyday life. I am sometimes unable to hold
a pencil without droping it. Or typing up a project because the pain is
too intense. At the moment I am even struggling from typing, however
with treatment, it is tolerable. The advice for using computers and
switching your body positions at the computer is very usefull. So my
point to your summary is that it is useful for others to read and become
aware of such problems so that they can hopefully not be affected by it.
