The Internet has huge impact in this social world. There are a lot of
advantages to this technology but also a lot of concerns and drawbacks.
Concerns include some legal issues, health issues, education,
e-commerce, information highway and inter addiction. The one I want to
focus on is the invasion of privacy over the World Wide Web. The
question is whether we should justify major changes in our traditional
expectations of personal privacy. In the article, the author has talked
about the different experiences of a grocery man would have with or
without the technology - ¨The friendly local grocer, who once memorized
the regular customer's preferences, now has an Internet enabled data
base that records every transaction and every item purchased〃. The CEO
of Sun Microsystems was widely quoted as saying "You have zero privacy
anyway. Get over it..". However, the technology does not have to mean
that it is a destruction of privacy, and that it should not be used as
an excuse for eroding principles of personal privacy that have come to
be almost universally accepted over the past century.

I strongly agree about what Ruby Ku has to say about the invasion of
privacy. Its true that the technology should be allowed to interfere in
anybody's personal lives.

I disagree with Ruby. Your personal information is widely available to
everyone on the Internet; some people might use your information for
unsavoury purposes.

Hi,
My opinion of internet as means of invating one's privacy is more or
less similar to the article. It seems way to perfect that the internet
provides us with such convenience, yet has no shortcomings at all? It
simply seems too good to be true.
Personally I have had no encounters with instances of my personal
privacy being invated, partially because i'm an avid internet user, also
because I take preventative measures to solve the issue before it
occurs. For example, I make it a habit to delete the history from my
browser everytime i use the internet, as well as logging off of my
account after each use, putting a password on my personal PC, and more
importanty, NEVER GIVE YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION OUT ON THE INTERNET
unless you are absolutely sure that you can trust the source (i.e.
school, agencies) and read for statements where they vow to not share
your infomation with others. These measures have saved me from plenty
of hassels. I hope it helps in making sure others don't waste time and
effort on the internet due to the issue of privacy invation.

Good day.
