I, Kerrie Oates am writing a summary for my Computer Science 100 course
about the growing problem of Internet addiction in society today.
Technology is quickly taking over in many of our lives and itąs so
hard to go even one day without the use of technology. There are many
advantages to advanced technology in todayąs society and if we look at
the use of the internet on computers we can find that although it has
many advantages it can have itąs disadvantages as well.
One huge disadvantage to the Internet is how it has become so
addictive in many peopleąs lives. Some people have found themselves
running to the computer to Śsurf the net" at any free moment they have,
checking their email, going on chat lines to talk to their friends,
ordering goods, doing online banking, and just about anything else they
can think of. It has come to the point where if a person chose to, they
could spend the rest of their life on their computer and not even have
to leave their home to get groceries, do their banking, order clothes
and other such items. If more things are becoming available to us on the
internet we may find that we will start to lose some essential parts to
life such as the appreciation for nature, communication with others, and
many more activities that can only be done outside the home.
Internet is a great thing as well as a huge problem at the same time.
Itąs up to each individual to decide how they will make use of their
time on the Internet.

i completely agree with Kerrie in this summary. I know from being in
res, that even if my neighbour has a question, she will send me a
message on MSN as opposed to coming over the 2 steps to my room. Also,
with UW resnet, if it goes down for even a day, people are lost and dont
know what to do with themselves because they dont have MSN to chat on.
HOWEVER, UW also relies heavily on the use of internet. Many professors
post their lectures notes online, as well as important information for
the course. I think the just shows how much society is changing.
