Dependency clinics in Europe are reporting more and more teens with
addictions to the internet, including instant messenger and chat rooms.
In one case, this resulted in repetitive strain injury. One clinic
worker stated that the teens needed detox from their cell phones as
well. Although physical health injuries, such as the repetitive strain
injury, are not common, negative impacts on mental health and
relationships can result, causing emotional damage. Compulsive checking
of email, instant messaging, or text messaging is now being termed
"pseudo-attention deficit disorder." Although the extreme conditions
being reported in Europe are uncommon as of yet, lesser symptoms are
becoming increasingly pervasive in society, especially among the
