In Dublin, Ireland there is a small team of Irish spam fighters
working to alleviate some of the burden facing computer users. As the
internet becomes more readily available to individuals, there is a
corresponding increase in the level of spam e-mails that are received.
For the first time, spam email exceeded the level of legitimate emails
processed through the internet last year. There is a growing concern as
organized crime gangs use spam mail to defraud online banking customers.
As well, individuals have begun to fear that the usefulness of email
will be lost as spam mail continues to cause unnecessary hassle. To
give you an idea of how much mail travels through the net, Brightmail, a
spam filtration organization based out of Ireland filters out 80 billion
emails a month, and blocks 2 billion spams per day.
There is relief in site as 4 of the largest email providers in the
United States were able to sue, under new federal law, a multitude of
online marketing firms. With these new legislations in place, there is
hope that the nuisance of spam will no longer continue
