First Responders Training for teaching and non-teaching staff of safe houses for better disaster preparedness

Dear Citizens,

Under United Way Mumbai Helpline’s Corporate Ward Adoption Program a
total of 86 teaching and non-teaching staff of the following safe
house schools in ‘A Ward’ went through First Responder Training in 3
batches. These training were organized to enhance participants’ skills
and preparedness as first responders in the times of disaster.

 Borabazar School (8)

Content of the training:
• Basics in First Aid
• Basic Life Saving Skills
• Dos and Don’ts in times of disasters
• Role of Safe House School teachers in times of Disasters

These Municipal Schools are identified as ‘Safe Houses’ by the ward
office and these schools would function as temporary shelters during
the times in the times of disaster or emergency. United Way Mumbai
Helpline has initiated a process for strengthening the state of
preparedness of these Safe Houses.

Future Plan of Action:

• Complete resource mapping in the areas nearby safe house schools
• Share the reports of Need Assessment and Resource Mapping with
local Ward Officer
• Prepare a list of equipments needed for better disaster
preparedness in these schools in
consultation with the local ward officer
• Provide necessary equipments with the help of local ward office
• Arrange for a detailed training in disaster response of the
Municipal School Teachers who have
undergone First Responder Training Program
