With the collaboration of Western Railway United Way Mumbai Helpline
organized Clean Railway Stations Campaign in partnership with Western
Railway from 24th February to 11th March 2011. More than 100
Volunteers from different colleges Participated in the campaign.

Major railways stations with high foot fall areas on western railway
such as Dadar, Churchgate, Andheri, Jogeshwari, Vile Parle, Khar Road,
Matunga railways stations were targeted to reach maximum number of
commuters and other stakeholders.

Objectives of the Drives:

• To sensitize about importance of maintaining cleanliness and
hygiene in public premises
• To motivate commuters for keeping railway premises clean

Strategies Adopted:
Volunteers were given specific railways stations to carry out the
awareness drives. Innovative strategies were adopted
o Street play performances at railway stations
o Poster Exhibitions
o One to One Interaction with Commuters
o Holding placards, posters and banners at railway stations

Given below are the details of Clean-Up awareness drive activities in
A Ward:

Churchgate Station
Churchgate is a downtown business district in South Mumbai. Today, the
station is one of the busiest stations in the city. Every day
thousands of people travel from and to Churchgate station. So the
cleanliness is very sensitive issue there. This station is the home to
the Western Railway headquarters; hence the campaign was started from
Churchgate station. First Drive held on 28th February 2011 and last
drive held on 10th March 2011 on the Churchgate station.

During the drives more than 50 College volunteers displayed the
posters on the issue of cleanliness. They interacted with commuters
and explained them the importance of cleanliness. 25 school children
also put there efforts in terms of poster exhibition, talking to
commuters etc. in this drive.
