Hello Everyone,
This Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. in PDL C-36, the math club will be hosting
another pizza+lecture. The speaker this time is Tom Boothby, a senior
in the UW Math Department. His abstract is below.
Title: Generating Sudoku Puzzles as an Inverse Problem
Abstract: In February, I took part in the Mathematical Contest in
Modeling
(MCM). For the competition, teams have 4 days to answer one of two
questions.
I will discuss my team's solution to the question, and about our
experiences
during the competition. The problem dealt with generating Sudoku
puzzles, which
we attempted to treat as an inverse problem. In the inverse problem,
we start
with a solved Sudoku board, and search for a puzzle whose unique
solution is
that board.
Hope to see you there!
