Dear EWB'ers,

I hope you're enjoying the amazing weather today! (and trying not to stress too much about exams and projects this week)

I have several announcements I wanted to condense into one email for you :)

-Presentation Tomorrow: MDGAP will be presenting in 3126 ME 6 pm on Thursday April 15. The mission of the Millennium Development Goals Awareness Project is to raise awareness of the eight UN Millennium Development Goals on the UW-Madison campus and to link interested students to relevant volunteer opportunities which can result in the development of new skills and advancement of the goals locally, nationally, and internationally

-Summer opportunity Giri (our faculty co-advisor) has a summer opportunity for EWB'ers (see 1st blue header for details + attachment )

-Banquet: Thanks for registering! For those of you who are attending, please dress business casual or semi-formal for the banquet.

-Tell COE what you think! Sign up for COE focus groups (see 2nd blue header)

I have always thought EWB students are some of the best students on campus. I'd encourage you all to participate in the focus groups to tell COE how they can improve! I'll be doing it :) I hope you will too.

-Vote NOW! ( for ASM elections, NATUP etc) today is the last day (vote within the next 45 minutes!) http://www.asm.wisc.edu/elections.html

Subject: Fwd: A Summer Course Relative to EWB activities in Sunny Arizona

EWB Advisors,
Good News!
Through the support and encouragement of many of you ESSD (Essential Skills for Sustainable Development) is finally on the books for 3 credits this May. It will have Liberal Studies and Diversity designations at Northern Arizona University for this first official year. I met several of you at EWB-USA in Denver and you know I could talk at great length about this new short summer course which seamlessly mingles technical training, cultural sensitivity and safety/health/emergency first-aid. Its goal is to prepare our students for productive world engagement. I see it as an essential component to our “due diligence” if we expect to send our students out into this dangerous world to participate in learning through service. For more information see attached flyer and visit---http://sites.google.com/site/essdnau/home
We can only accommodate 20 students this summer. Please forward this to potentially interested students!!!! Registration is open.

2) COE focus groups

Dear Undergraduate Students in the College of Engineering,

In spring of 2008, you were invited by Dean Peercy to evaluate the college of engineering related to teaching and other aspects of your experience as a student. The survey was called PACE: Project to Assess Climate in Engineering. Results from this survey provided us with some global issues and areas in which the college can improve. We are in the second phase of data collection for this project and are requesting your input again.
Christine Pribbenow, a researcher from the Wisconsin Center for Education Research, has agreed to conduct focus groups with students to collect more data to fully understand how students perceive the college. These focus groups allow students to share their personal stories and experiences. This research study has been approved by UW-Madison's Institutional Review Board for Human Subjects Research (SE 2010-0213). As such, these groups are voluntary and any data collected will be reported in aggregate form and will not identify individual student participation.
Please consider participating in one of these focus groups. They have been scheduled during various days and times to accommodate students' schedules (refreshments will be provided). To allow for discussion and participation by all, the groups will be run with a maximum of 8-12 students. For this reason, please RSVP directly to Christine with your name, contact information, and your preferred Group # and day/time (send to: cmpri...@wisc.edu):
Group 1: Wednesday, April 14th 2:30pm-4pm
Group 2: Wednesday, April 14th 4:30pm-6pm
Group 3: Monday, April 19th, 11am-12:30pm
Group 4: Monday, April 19th, 3pm-4:30pm
Group 5: Tuesday, April 20th, 9am-10:30am
Group 6: Tuesday, April 20th, 11am-12:30pm
Group 7: Tuesday, April 27th, 9am-10:30am
Group 8: Tuesday, April 27th, 1pm-2:30pm
Group 9: Tuesday, April 27th, 3pm-4:30pm
Group 10: Tuesday, April 27th, 5pm-6:30pm
On behalf of the College of Engineering, we appreciate your participation in this important activity.

Warm Regards,
Steven M. Cramer
