New Course on Globalization and Development!

Below is a description of new course taught by Professor Aseema Sinha, being offered in Fall 2010.

Political Science 401
Fall 2010
Development, Globalization and Power
Instructor: Aseema Sinha

This course will analyze the relationship between Globalization and Development with reference to a diverse group of developing countries. Different dimensions of globalization—economic flows, international rules and organizations, and role of international aid—deserve analysis separately and will studied in their different dimensions. We will also analyze how the concept of development has changed as the forces of globalization have been become stronger. We will look at the impact of globalization from the perspective of different countries focusing on some large developing countries such as India, China and Brazil as well as small countries such as Guatemala and Rwanda. The analysis of this diversity will help us explore variation among different types of developing countries, the rise of emerging powers in the global economy, and the changing definitions and effects of development in the world.
