Here is the more up to date info. I gotta get my rocket ready! Who all is going? Me, Ben, Alex, maybe Jackson? We can take anyone interested. I may ask around in my engineering classes and see.

So what is Look Up In The Sky II?
The Champlain Region Model Rocket Club (CRMRC) and the Vermont Astronomical Society (VAS) have joined together to have an afternoon of launching rockets and an evening star party.

When is it?
Saturday, September 17, starting at 2:00pm sharp. Rockets will fly until it is dark. Sky viewing will be done both without and with telescopes, starting when it gets dark (sunset is 7:00pm).

The weather report is absolutely perfect for doing this. Clear skies, light breezes, highs during the day of mid 60s and lows at night of mid 40s. Dress for the weather.

What to expect?
Scores of rockets are expected, from small 4 inch tall ones to 12 feet tall, from a couple of ounces to 65 pounders. Bring your own rockets and motors and fly them with us. Or you can pick up a CRMRC saucer kit on the field, decorate it, build it, and fly it.
Astronomy experts will be there to show you the constellations in the night sky and then look though a number of telescopes at near objects (the moon through a telescope is very interesting), things within the solar system (Jupiter is very visible right now), and deep sky galaxies, nebulae and other objects. The best thing with this is that there will be someone there to explain what is being looked at, where it is and will direct the telescope directly there.

Where is it?
The southern end of Maquam Shore Road, near St. Albans Bay. About a mile west from the traffic circle near St. Albans Bay Park, on the north (right). Look for the white with black letter CRMRC or white with blue letter VAS signs and then drive out onto the field. See www.crmrc.org for more complete directions.

What to bring?
Expect to spend several hours in the middle of a field: chairs to sit on, sunscreen/hat, jackets at night, a red flashlight, drinks, snacks, dinner. A Porta-Potty will be available.

Cost?
Viewing is free; both rockets and telescopes. Flying Estes model rockets is free. There is a $5 fee for flying a high power rocket (you must be nationally certified to fly high power). The CRMRC saucer kit and motor is $5.

Details:
This event is being held in accordance with all NAR, FAA, NFPA and ATF regulations -- safety is our number one concern.
The VAS is scheduled to bring several scopes. This will include a large 14 inch scope which is novice-friendly yet capable of seeing some very interesting deep sky objects.
The CRMRC members are scheduled to fly at least 2 level 3 rockets (>50 pounds), scores of level 2 rockets (> 5 pounds), and scores of level 1 or mid-power or model rockets. We fly odd shaped "rockets" such as pyramids or cones or plastic pumpkins or crayon banks or plastic beer bottle banks.

If you plan to stay for the star party, please park with your headlights pointing to the road so that when you leave, you do not shine your lights on everyone who is still looking at the sky.

It looks to be a great day just to be outside. If you have any questions on rocketry or sky viewing or telescopes, the experts will be there to answer your questions. I hope to see you there.

President, CRMRC (NAR L3 certified)
