Here is an example of "chuffing" where the rocket engine does not come up to pressure rapidly enough. For those of you who went to the first launch, there was a rocket that hopped up and down on the pad a bit before taking off, and that is exactly it. Usually though they just spit smoke for a bit and making popping noises. Here is a far more extreme example, and demonstration of how dangerous chuffing can be.
