Rocketeers and Wannabees,
The CRMRC will be flying this weekend, Saturday, August 27 starting at 10:00 on our field off the southern end of Maquam Shore road, near St. Albans Bay. Look for the CRMRC sign, white with black letters on the northern side of the road. Directions are on our web site (
www.crmrc.org).
As always, we will be on the field until we run out of motors. The weather prediction (according to NOAA) is mostly sunny, high 80, winds starting calm and getting to SW at 6 mph. These are excellent flying conditions. We have fun but safety is our #1 concern.
Feel free to just watch or fly yourself. You can either bring your own rockets and motors or pick up a CRMRC flying saucer kit on the field (and get instant gratification in building and flying within minutes). Chairs and something to drink are always recommended. A table is useful if you have to do some rocket preparation. There are no facilities on the field, so plan accordingly.
Next month, Saturday, September 17, is Look Up In The Sky II. This starts with the CRMRC flying in the afternoon and evening, until dusk. Then the Vermont Astronomical Society will have a star party. Watching the rocket motors at dusk really brings out the colors: red, green, white, orange, blue, and of course, the sparks of a skidmark. Some very large flights are planned for next month, including the biggest motor we can fly here in Vermont (an M). Many other flights are planned also. As for the VAS, there will be folks there who know their way around the night sky. You can learn where all the constellations are, and have a chance to look into the club's 14 inch telescope and be amazed at what is out there. The 14 inch scope has amazing light gathering powers and some eyepieces that make viewing excellent. We ask that if you are planning to show up for the star party only, that you arrive on the field around 6:30 to avoid shining your headlights into the eyes of others (the!
reby destroying their night vision).
I look forward to seeing you out there.
