Judging from most of the responses I must not have made my situation
clear. Someone, somewhere, is conducting a probe of a third party
and is using one of my IP addresses to identify his TCP/IP packets.
The administrators of this third party site have contacted me. I
have investigated and determined to the best of my ability that the
packets do not originate on our network, nor are they being forwarded
through our routers.
What I am looking for is some way for the administrators on the third
party's site to backtrack the packets to the point of origin. I know
that this is not my problem per se, but if these things actually are
coming out from somewhere under my control I want to find out about
it.
It appears that there is simply no way to do this.
Regards,
Jim
