No at this time, I was considering starting a local amazon group. What were you looking for?

I was looking for a local user group to discuss hosting applications on AWS, preferably somewhere in Utah Valley. :)

I joined to talk about AWS and learn more about how to use it most effectively for applications that I develop.

I joined for the same reasons. I see alot of web applications moving
this way and I'd like to learn more about it.

PLUG was having a discussion about AWS and someone posted a link to
the amazon.com website which listed this user group. I thought I'd
pop in to see if I could learn anything.

Well, we'd better organize a meeting. We can host at the offices of the group I work for, Rain in American Fork. We can also provide food.

Would you guys be interested in meeting this month, or wait until January?

I can also get some swag from Amazon, but it may take a few weeks.

I'm game too.  We moved our webcasting platform to AWS in April, and I've learned a lot and also have a lot of questions.  I live around point of the mountain.

cheers,

I'd like to meet this month, if possible. I can offer space at the
Bloomfire office in Lehi as well.

We have alot of question.  Maybe we should get someone there who can provide the answers :) or maybe get the questions ahead of time and asign each person to find the answer.

Nathan Blackham from the PLUG list says he works for AWS. Perhaps we could invite him? Does anyone know him or know if he's local to the area?

I meant to say "..assign each person to find AN answer...". Then, we
can each present on the question we were given. I probably shouldn't
be volunteering myself to do such thing though, considering I'm not
even sure if I can make it.

Not to toot my own horn, but I've been using many facets of aws for about 4 years and should be able to answer questions.

This was one of my interests to starting the group, to share knowledge and learn from others.

That is what groups are all about. And I will toot Gary's horn for him. He is awesome with AWS.

Would it be okay is total newbies to AWS tag along to said meetings?
I'm only starting to make use of S3 and the PHP library for a project
right now and would like to know more about best practices and cool
ideas.

Tom, I would say that is one of the main reason for User Groups, to help newbies. :) Welcome.

Let's do a meeting! We could do a roundtable-type discussion or my
arm could be twisted to give a brief presentation on something AWS
related.
Where can we meet?

I can offer the Bloomfire office in Lehi, but I'm out of town all of next week.

Lehi is good for me, and the later in the evening the better if we're picking out times.  (8ish?)

How about the 3rd Tuesday of the month at 7:00 PM in the Bloomfire offices in Lehi?

If we wanted to meet at Rain in American Fork, I can provide free pizza for most meetings.  Just throwing it out there.

We have plenty of space.  3rd Tuesday is fine with me.

3rd Tuesdays would probably be good for me also. Since we have two companies offering to host, perhaps we could use both, switching off each month? Just a though. I am partial to Rain though. ;)

Any chance you guys could go 8:00pm on third Tuesdays instead of 7?  I'd love to attend but just can't do that early.

I'd prefer to keep it at 7:00 PM. Every UG I'm a part of starts at 7:00 or sooner. The Ruby group "ends" at 9:00 PM, but I sometimes don't make it to my truck until 10:30. So I'd rather not push that back even further.

Okay, let's plan on having our first meeting Tuesday Jan 17th 7-9pm at Rain.  And 3rd Tuesdays thereafter.

Our address is:
686 E 110 S
Unit 102
American Fork

Pizza will be provided. I'll send out a calendar invite soon.

If you have trouble finding, please call or txt me.

Thanks,
Gary

That would be good information for the "About this group" page (http://groups.google.com/group/uvawsug/about), or even for a wiki, if we make a group site. Maybe even just a Google Sites page. Just thinking out loud.

more about AWS.
