Hello and happy Friday UVA members,

Spring is in the air and it's time to come out of hibernation to pick up some treats at our upcoming bake sale!

Super Awesome Vegan Bake Sale
Wednesday, Feb. 8th
Clearihue Lobby @ UVic
10 am - 3:30 pm (or until everything is sold)
Proceeds to be donated to Peaceful Prairie Animal Sanctuary.

Check out the shiny attached poster too.

If you feel like doing some baking (heart shaped cookies anyone?) or hanging out at the bake sale table, please message me to let me know, preferably by the end of the weekend.

Baked items can be dropped off as early as 9:00 am to the bake sale table in the Clearihue lobby, and please also provide a list of ingredients for your baked item.

Baking guidelines

Please ensure that what ever you make is truly vegan, meaning no animal products are used. Obvious examples of ingredients you shouldn't include are dairy, eggs, and honey. Less obvious examples: gelatin, whey, vitamin D3 (found in margarines), casein (found in soy cheeses), and lactose. Please use vegan sugar (such as organic sugar) or natural sweeteners such as agave and maple syrup. Many refined sugars are filtered through animal bone char.

If you're new to vegan baking, don't worry - it's easy! Eggs can be replaced with a 1/2 mashed banana, 1/4 cup apple sauce, 1/4 cup silken tofu blended, or 2 tbsp flax meal with 3 tbsp water. Milk can be replaced with non-dairy milks (soy, rice, almond, oat, etc). Margarine or butter can be replaced with Earth Balance (a vegan margarine - although this contains the contentious ingredient palm oil) or oils (like coconut oil).

The internet is chock full of vegan baking recipes, so just fire up Google and search away.

If you don't have time to bake, hopefully you can still stop by to pick up some treats! See you Wednesday. :)
