A voter suppression provision in the transportation bill adopted by the General Assembly awaiting the governor's signature requires that any out of state college student seeking to vote in Ohio obtain an Ohio Driver's license, and re-register any car to obtain Ohio plates. An estimated 116,000 students could lose their right to vote in Ohio unless they pay up to $75 in new fees. Go online to

Governor Kasich: Please Veto the provision in House Bill 53 limiting the voting rights of college students
The Ohio Senate inserted a harmful provision in the
state transportation budget H.B. 53 that places unnecessary barriers to
voting. Please line-item veto R.C. § 4503.111 and § 4507.213 to ensure
young people continue to have a voice at the ballot box.
The form to submit directly to the governor is at

"It’s hard to believe ... this is not an effort to discourage students from voting,” said the president of the Ohio League of Women Voters.* An attack on Ohio voting rights was woven into the transportation budget bill and is on its way to Gov Kasich, but he could line item veto the part that will suppress the vote of students, if enough of us let him know how wrong (and unpopular!) this is.
