Subject: Now Is The Time: Show Your Support for H.B. 300
Dear Faith Leader,
First: thank you for being a faith leader in Ohio who supports ending employment discrimination for gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender people!
Second: we want to alert you to something important that is happening in the Ohio Statehouse that you may also want to lend your support to.
Equality Ohio has signed on to a coalition led by the Anti-Defamation League to demonstrate support for H.B. 300, which would expand Ohio’s current “ethnic intimidation laws” to include crimes committed where the primary motivator was the victim’s sexual orientation, gender identity, or disability. After a recent string of brutal beatings and murders, we feel that this law is essential in keeping LGBT Ohioans safe from violence.
On Wednesday, March 12th, the House Judiciary Committee and supporters of H.B. 300 are gathering at the Ohio State House in Room 122 at 4 pm to hear testimonies. Please consider adding your name to the coalition list, to be read the day of testimony (see attached letter). To do so, send your name to Anita Gray, AG...@adl.org, from the Anti-Defamation League by the end of the day on Tuesday.
If you are in the area, please consider attending the hearing in person, on Wednesday, March 12th at the Ohio Statehouse, in collar if possible. When you arrive, check in with and introduce yourself to Equality Ohio's Lead Organizer, Shawn Copeland (937-509-2000). It is important, as people of faith who believe in the dignity and worth of all people, to show our support of this bill!
