to UU Justice Ohio
Dear friends,
At our UUJO Justice Assembly a few weeks ago, we were asked to pay attention to legislation that could pass during the lame duck session of the Ohio legislature. One such piece of legislation is HB 48. Here is some information for your consideration and action:
*URGENT! Proposed Gun Legislation: Action in the Lame Duck Session of the Ohio House*
Proponents of HB 48 will be heard on Tuesday in the OH Senate and Opponents will be heard on Wednesday. *There may be a vote as early as Wednesday afternoon.* This bill passed the OH House without giving a chance for opponents to speak on the 3rd and final hearing.
Here is a summary of the bill, taken from the preamble:
To amend sections 311.42, 2923.12, 2923.122, and 2923.126 of the Revised Code to *modify the prohibition against carrying a concealed handgun onto institutions of higher education, day-care facilities, aircraft, certain government facilities, public areas of airport terminals and police stations, and school safety zones* and to allow a sheriff to use concealed handgun license fee revenue to purchase ammunition and firearms.
Please go to this website and plug in your zip code to find your Ohio Senator to call, it is very easy. Once the name comes up, you just click and you will get the information you need: http://ohiosenate.gov/index. If you can back up your call with a short email to both their representative and the Majority Leader, that would also help.
