Dear Friends,
The 1986 Gift on the chart below from Gertrude to establish the Endowment Fund is a correct number. She offered $100K but by the time her Brokerage House trading habits forwarded the money it was the $92K amount deposited in the Endowment Fidelity Account once it was set up.
The 1993 data on gifts is incorrect. The sum of the gifts at $249,324.00 appears to be good.
I spoke today with Jerry Ludeman who was the Chairman of the Endowment Committee that year. I was working on the Finance Committee. When the announcement came to the Fellowship from Gertrude's Estate representative that she Bequested $250K to the Fellowship there was interest on the part of the Finance Committee to get $50K to pay off the Veach Loan. Jerry said NO. Bequests go entirely to the Endowment Fund unless specified otherwise. We held a Congregational Meeting to vote on this issue. The result was 96 Yes, all goes to the Endowment Fund with 12 Nos. Following that meeting it took Jerry three months to get Gertrude's Brokerage House to release the monies to UUFBR Endowment Fund. They were trading the Account of some 30 stocks aggressively and the net transfer after fees was about $235,000.00 that was deposited in our Fidelity Account. Jerry handled that hold matter and confirms the dollar amount and remembers it well after 27 years.
The other name mentioned in 1993 is Abe and Sylvia Porter. The last name is not known. We had and Abe and Sylvia Parker. Jerry does not remember their Gift to the Endowment. However, we speculate that they likely Gifted $15,000.00. If we add that to the $234,324.00 we have a sum of $249,324.00 which matches the sum of the two gifts.
Summarily, the two 1993 entries shown are incorrect . The sum of $234,324.00 is a confirmed gift from Gertrude and the balance of the total $249,324.00 i.e. $15,000.00 is likely a gift from Abe and Sylvia Parker.
NB: The Endowment Committee had a Legacy Book in the Sanctuary documenting all the bequests and gifts to the Endowment Fund. It was on display year around on a table right of the Minister's lectern. Sadly it disappeared about 3 years ago. This book would have confirmed the data above. It seems like the Legacy Book may have gotten mixed up with Flea Market stuff.
Thank you for your interest in the Endowment Fund and Committee.
Sincerely,
Paul Chasse
Treasurer, Endowment Committee.
