Hi
UU-greenteam,
I
pushed the ball forward a bit for a preliminary proposal from Yeloha for hosting
a communty solar project (see the attached document). If we accepted
their sketched-out plan the UUCW would get about 6000kwh per year off the power
bill (worth about $1500 at this year's ~25 cents/kwh delivered rate, $1200 at
recent years' ~20 cent pricing.) Not big money, but very low
risk, with no up-front investment.
A few
issues would have to be spelled out about liablity for roof leaks, etc, and it
would be prudent to insist on ballasted racking rather than bolted-down racking
on the flat roof portion (assuming it's acceptable to use that leak-prone
bit of roof.)
The
cost of putting it up is $0, and all the system monitoring/maintenance is on
their plate, which makes managing it a bit easier- we don't have to get into the
utility business. They will own the system, there is not a guaranteed option to
buy (but in the world of business everything is negotiable, if that ever becomes
desirable.) There may be other solar companies with community solar
propositions & lease-to-own options, but this is a pretty clean &
simple model to work with, and comes with no financial
committment/risk.
If
anybody wants to meet to discuss this or other potential solar options I'm
available most evenings between 7:30-9:30PM during the week, and sometimes
during weekends.
