I think we should leave the hedges where they are, because of the pipes and other reasons, continuing pruning as Steve and others have done well for years. But if he will need to dig more than 2', then yes I think we should check with digsafe and/or other sources/authorities. National Grid learned the hard way after they hit our sewer near Holden St and had to pay us $14K+ in damages. Here's the drawing I refer to: bmst plumbing.PDF

Kim, The landscaper wondered if we should contact DigSafe first
As for the pipes, he may have to dig deeper than 2', but said the pipes should be easily replaced.
Your thoughts?

Betty and I talked. She thought your concern in your text to me was about the landscaper who would remove the hedges. As long as he knows the pipes are there, about 6-ft out and at least 2-ft down, we'll just hope for the best. I don't think the downspouts are even connected to those pipes, so the pipes might not be very important. Sewer pipes crossing the yard in front of the classrooms should be deep enough, but caution is always wise in such jobs....

Hi Kim,

Regarding our discussion about rain barrels, the city has closed the program, and the notice read that it may resume in the fall.
I find that highly unlikely, but I will check in again in 3 weeks.

Best,

Linda

Our garden committee and consultant met today for planning for all our existing and proposed gardens. Thank you for showing and sharing some plans last month. Besides using these plan sheets https://drive.google.com/file/d/1JMQNNBAmqkgFSWmCZoldiBbT4lJk3lxG/view?usp=sharing and https://drive.google.com/file/d/1JMQNNBAmqkgFSWmCZoldiBbT4lJk3lxG/view?usp=sharing and pages 191 - 195 of the specifications at https://drive.google.com/file/d/1R_agwqmiDaoF2jJZNjHsKoHQZG7erSY5/view?usp=sharing, we would like a pdf of the sheet you showed us with the bioretention basin section/detail. I had recommended that Aaron request it but he may have forgotten. I presume we should also review the Order of Conditions in the specs. Betty is heading our committee, and Ellen is our native plants expert.

Subject: RE: Shore Drive Project - Site Mtg - Notes

Greetings All,

Below are my notes from our site meeting last week. My apology for taking so long in getting them out.

Of first concern, which I’m not certain was covered at the meeting is that on September 1 we will be a voting site for our District for the Primary.  This will probably mean a full parking lot and a very busy day and evening so I hope that the work does not commence before this.  If it does, this means that there can’t be any work on the lot that day.

Here are the meeting notes:

  • We understand that work on the parking lot will not commence until early to mid-September and may take up to a month to complete
  • Word about this needs to get to Mark Gallant (The Dogfather) prior to staring.  (I’ve since spoken to Mark and he and I are looking at alternatives while the work is happening).
  • If the work continues through the 3rd Saturday of the month then we will need to make alternative arrangements for our Food Pantry on that day.  (Food would be delivered on the afternoon the day before so that may also be an issue).
  • Thursdays, during the lot work, mobile Farmers Market will need to move to either the rear of the church or I will work with Linda Morse and others to find alternate location (maybe First Presbyterian).
  • Amorello will send me cost estimates related to :
    • Including replacing sidewalk next to Sanctuary (asphalt or concrete)
    • Steps to Bancroft Lot (I will be getting more info on this after discussion with Bancroft)
    • Conduit to
      • the light pole island
      • to the corner of the parking lot (nearest building on Bancroft side) for electric car port
      • to the area where the new sign will be placed
    • Removing Ash Trees
    • Removing brown log posts (I will be talking to Chuck Innis in advance of this).
  • Planting around the water garden is up to UUCW (Garden Team wants native plants and may have ideas)
  • Striping parking lot (need to check on number of handicap spaces)
  • Using “cape-cod” berms around lot

If I’ve missed anything, please chime in.  Thanks, Aaron
