Senate President Courtney, Rep. Clem:

I don't know all the politics on this -- it appears that the renewable portfolio standard for electricity (which should be renewed and should not include hydro, or should be raised by the same percentage as the state's hydro share if it is included) has gotten tangled up with the absurd "clean fuels" program, which should certainly be sunset if not killed outright.

As your constituent, I urge you to NOT to extend the Clean Fuels Program, which is a terrible boondoggle that only plays into the hands of the anti-environmentalists who love having such a wasteful and inefficient subsidy program to hammer.  Let that poor misguided thing die, so we can make progress on a real carbon abatement program (carbon taxes on all sources, with 100% rebates)

But DO protect the intent of the renewable portfolio standard for electric, meaning that if hydro is to count as low or no carbon generation, then the state's targets for low/no carbon generation must be raised dramatically.

Thank you for your attention on this vital issue.

John,

Right now in Salem, legislators are sitting on a bill that would prevent the rollback of Oregon’s Clean Fuels Program. If legislators don’t act to lift the 2015 sunset date, the program will expire and Oregon will remain captive to the oil industry.

Sign the petition NOW to ask Oregon legislators to prevent the rollback of Oregon's Clean Fuels Program.

BlueOregon Action is partnering with Oregon Environmental Council to ask legislators to lift the sunset and prevent a rollback of this important environmental program.

If fully implemented, the Clean Fuels Program could save Oregonians as much as $1.6 billion in fuel costs, create between 800 and 29,000 jobs, grow personal income by as much as $2.6 billion, and generate as much as $2.1 billion in Gross State Product.   Sign the petition to ask Oregon legislators to lift the sunset on the Clean Fuels Program.

The petroleum industry lobby is doing all it can to squelch Oregon’s Clean Fuels Program. Sign the petition NOW and let state lawmakers know that you want them to stand up to out-of-state oil interests and to lift the sunset on Oregon’s Clean Fuels Program.
